Every once in a while you hear on the news or social media that a new brilliant idea will soon be developed. You click on the link to watch a video of a business man/woman giving a mesmerizing pitch regarding the idea and you think to yourself firstly ‘that’s something I want to buy’ and secondly ‘I wish I could present what I have in mind in such a convincing and confident manner’.
It is commonly appreciated that public speaking is an incredible skill which everyone wants to have. However, when someone inexperienced stands in front of an audience, one can understand the difficulty of the task.
That is why Rotaract Club of Nicosia Ledra and Rotaract Club of Nicosia organized a Public Speaking workshop, facilitated by Nicosia Crusaders Toastmasters Club on the 9th of October 2016.
The presenters, Andreas Hadjisofocleous (President), Vipin Ramdas and Ersin Oztoycan, held an outstanding presentation, which included tips on how to state our thoughts, ways to prepare for a presentation and useful hints on how to overcome the great FEAR of public speaking. The use of examples and videos made their points very vivid. Also, the presentation became interactive when each member of the audience was asked to stand up and introduce themselves and subsequently talk about a random subject.
The conclusion we have drawn from this workshop is that public speaking is developed through practice and good preparation of the speech. As they quoted “90% of how well the talk will go is determined before the speaker steps on the platform.”
