3rd Prize – Med Outstanding Project Award 2014/15 – “Water for Life” of Rotaract Club of El Tahrir, Egypt

In order to provide safe and clean water supplying for people who live in places with no access to water, Rotaract Club of El Tahrir managed to help in the installation of water pipes for 142 houses in Hegaza Village in Qena in the Water For Life project. The project is organized by the Unicef,Holding  Company  for  Water  and  Waste water  and the Rotary District 2451. Our sponsor Alex Bank donated 200,000 EGP for the project.
To let the beneficiaries feel that they pay for their water connection in order to have access for clean water as well as to help in providing the needed cost for installing more connections for water and waste water for other families and households in need, Rotary Egypt and Unicef in cooperation with the water company uses the Revolving funds mechanism with the beneficiaries as follows:
– The water company identifies beneficiaries according to set criteria in cooperation with the village local unit.
–  Funds transferred for “Water for Life” are  directed to the water company.
–  The water company installs the household water  connections.
–  Beneficiaries pay back connection cost through  monthly installments (in addition to their water bill). These installments go back to the revolving fund to finance additional connections.
